Key Skills Required To Be An Effective Sales Closer — PART 1

If you have ever wondered what are those key skills required to be an effective closer, then this blog is for you! Even though you might not be from a sales background; if you want to improve your closing skills, it can be done!

From not being into sales and then suddenly getting on the phone for a sales call might feel tricky. So, what are those skills that you really need to develop?

1.Mindset — Being Coachable:

So the first thing you need is to be coachable because we’ve got a lot of programming in our minds already. I’ve been in a job myself before, so I’ve always been in front of the computer. I used to speak very well with the computer, I could program in many languages but speaking on the phone and closing sales…? Never done it!

So for me what I really took on board is that I’m going to empty my cup and I’m going to be coachable. I got ready to unlearn and relearn. This is something that needs to happen. It’s the first step towards being an effective sales closer.

2.Learning The Skill:

So a lot of times, we stand back and hesitate to move forward and go first thinking about what the other person might say and trying to compare ourselves with them. So, it’s your mindset. The mind plays a lot of tricks. So personally I was really open to changing my mindset. So, the second thing is actually learning the skill. I’ve tried to do sales before and seen my family do it as well, but I never learnt the technique of closing. There’s a different technique for this skill and hence learning it is most important. People say knowledge is power but I’d say “Knowledge + Action = Power”

3.Taking Action:

The key to success is taking action. It doesn’t matter whether the action is small or big or whatever, just take the action. The first month you start closing sales, you might feel like what you learnt and what you are implementing is so different because you can learn from books but when you pick the phone up and call, there’s a lot that goes on. There’s not just a voice on the other end. Your mind is playing tricks with you; your heart is pumping; you’re feeling a bit nervous; you know all those emotions one needs to get used to!

Yes, you might feel a bit nervous in the beginning but you just keep doing it! To be a great closer, once you’ve got the skill, pick up the phone and start closing, start talking on the phone, doesn’t matter if it’s right or wrong; with experience, you will get it right! To be an effective sales closer, it’s not enough to just learn the skills — you must take action!

CONCLUSION:

So three things: Mindset, Learning the skill and Taking action. These three things gave me success. Do you want to get started right now? Great! Just pick that phone up and take action. If you’ve got the mindset and you’ve got the skill just pick up the phone and go for it!
