‘You can either make money or make excuses you cannot make both’. People always say they don’t have enough time. But in reality, most people just make excuses and don’t take the steps necessary to reach their goals.
They say, “I want to do this BUT”, “I love your idea BUT”, “you know what, I’m definitely motivated, I’m going do this tomorrow BUT”, you see whenever you say anything followed by “BUT” it’s an excuse!!
This is something I used to do all the time and now I found a way to get rid of these excuses. Have you ever thought that you’re going to do something but ended up never doing it? Well, I have. I used to make excuses all the time; so in this blog, I want to share one brilliant tip that I personally followed to stop making excuses in my life.
How to get rid of your excuses?
Have you heard yourself saying ‘I really want to do that but I can’t do it!’; ‘I love your idea but there’s something not right about it’; I want to buy that but I can’t afford it’; I used to say all these things too and it took me a while to understand that what follows the word ‘but’, is the real thing.
You are training your mind to really think about the situation. Let me give you an example; I came to Australia in 2006 and have been here since; I’m someone who loves having property, but when I used to look at any property I used to tell myself, “I want to buy this property BUT I can’t afford it… I really want to buy it BUT it’s so expensive” and eventually I used to forget about the property.
Five years later, I still hadn’t bought that property that I so badly wanted, and I’m like “Why didn’t I buy that property?” In those 5 years that had passed, where I kept making excuses to myself, the rate of that exact property had shot up! That’s when I had a self realisation; that’s the day I changed myself. So, I want to tell you exactly that one thing that I did that stopped me from making any more excuses.
What’s the secret?
Whenever you’re going to use the word “BUT” in your sentence, substitute it with the word “AND”, this is what I did. Instead of saying, “I love property BUT it’s so expensive” I started saying, “I love property AND I’m going to afford it!”; “I love property AND I’m going to buy one”. You see, when I said that, I forced my mind to look at the positive side of it. I trained my mind to find ways on how I could achieve this goal of having a property and that’s when I ended up purchasing multiple properties.
Let me give you another example, today morning, I was thinking to myself and making excuses, ‘I want to take my kids out BUT I’m not feeling well, what if I get even more sick.’ So when I realised myself saying ‘but’ I substituted it with ‘and’; I said ‘I want to take my kids out, I’m sick and I need some fresh air’. I went out, I took my kids, I got some fresh air and I did what I wanted to, no excuses, only action! All successful people that I have come across don’t make excuses. They focus on creating wealth. I have trained my mind for success and allowed myself to create wealth. This is the secret to stop making excuses and create wealth in any matter in your life or work.
