Rebranding Myself For A Global Impact!

The time to maximize and go global is now. This blog is exactly about that. What I’m going to share with you today is a rebranding exercise that I am currently going through with my name, so I can go global and maximize the impact.

Now you must have observed that since a while, my name from Sukhdev Sethi has changed to Dev Sethi. Yes! I shortened it to make it easy to remember and easy to pronounce.

If you also have a name that’s difficult to pronounce and you’re wondering if you should change it, read on till the end as I’ll be sharing a bit more in detail as to the process I’m going through and the thought process behind it.

But first, let me share with you the three key reasons why I’m rebranding myself!

Reason Number One:

I’m going global. I have clients from over 18 different countries and I want to expand even more. I found that a lot of people from the Europe and American regions find my old name difficult to pronounce, and when they want my help but they don’t know how to pronounce my name, they don’t approach me and this doesn’t allow me to help them.

So, to make it easy for people to pronounce, I’ve shortened my name from Sukhdev Sethi to Dev Sethi. You’ll also see that a lot of actors and celebrities change their names for the same reason; so that their name is short, easy to pronounce and they can go global.

Reason Number Two:

A lot of people, even when they approach me from the European, Australian, Southeast Asian, and American regions, pronounce my name a little wrong. And when I correct them, they find it a little awkward. So, the relationship starts off being awkward. I don’t want that.

I want the relationship to start off by making it simple. So when my name is ‘Dev Sethi’ it’s really simple to pronounce. So we can do business easily and when you approach me, there’s no chance of pronouncing my name wrong, so there’s no awkward feeling.

Reason Number Three:

Now, like I said earlier, a lot of celebrities and stars go global and change their name. They either shorten it or change it totally, so that it’s memorable, easy to pronounce and still keeps their ethnic background.

My full name is Sukhdev Sethi. I’ve changed it to Dev Sethi. I’ve kept the second part of it as it is, because I’m a Thai Indian now living in Australia so you see it keeps my ethnic background.

So, these are the top three reasons why I decided to rebrand myself. The main reason why I’m sharing this information with you through this blog is because a lot of you have approached me saying that you don’t know whether to change your name or not. Look, the decision is yours. But what I’m sharing with you in this blog is the process I am going through personally.

CONCLUSION

As I mentioned earlier, I want to go global and maximise my impact. Having a name that is easy to pronounce and to remember is crucial in achieving this goal.

By rebranding my name from Sukhdev Sethi to Dev Sethi, I am making it easier for people to approach me and do business with me, without the awkwardness of mispronouncing my name and by keeping the second part of my name, “Sethi” I am still keeping my roots while making it more easy to pronounce.

I wanted to share my journey with you so that you can see the impact it has on my online presence and business and if you are starting out and wondering about rebranding, I invite you to follow my journey and see how it goes for me. So it will give you the information and inspiration you need to make the decision that’s right for you and your business.

Leave a comment below if you feel your name is difficult to pronounce and let’s go on this journey together. I’m also starting from scratch now. So there’s never a right time or a wrong time to do something. So, continue doing it.
