Don’t Start A Business Until You Read These 5 Proven Secrets!

Recently I won the “Sales Closer of the year”; the world champion award in generating sales across 150 countries in this world and today I want to share how you can do it too. I use the same skills in my business today to grow. So, don’t start a business until you read these five things, that I’m about to share with you. It’s really critical that you understand this otherwise the business you’re about to start might fail.

Firstly why do you want to start a business? Maybe we want certainty in life or quit your job and start a business right now! You might be going through all of that. So, before you take any action read this blog till the end very carefully and trust me on this because I’ve been there, I’ve done it and I know what it takes!

1.Take Full Responsibility

In business, the buck stops with you whether it works or not it stops with you. You have no one to blame. In fact, when you hire someone you are now responsible not just for them but for their family as well! So ask yourself “Am I ready to take that full responsibility for someone and my family too?”

If you are not ready yet then don’t start a business. But if you are and you know that you are willing to actually help them first before you can help yourself then start a business. This is very serious. It’s not just your life at stake but your staff’s life as well. It is your employee’s life and their family, so you have to take full responsibility for your actions.

2.Don’t Start A Business If You Have No Money:

You see as an employee I was in a job before. Money was coming in and I was used to getting money every month whether I worked hard or not. In business, if you don’t have money then don’t worry, you’ll have time to grow the money. So don’t come into business with no money at all because if you come with the mindset of an employee like “You know what? I’m gonna make money immediately after a month!” No!!! That won’t work!

You have to have money saved for about six months to one year. So don’t start your business if you don’t have this buffer. If you do have it, then you must really tread carefully. Ask yourself if the buffer is not enough for you and if the buffer runs out, then do you take full responsibility for your actions?

3.Work On The Business Not In The Business:

If you are not ready to work on the business and want to put your hands into everything then don’t start a business. When I was as an employee, I did everything myself. Anything my boss told me, I just did it. If my boss wanted to do something I used to say “Oh don’t worry! I’ll do it! I had a little ‘employee mindset’.

As a business owner you need to delegate. You see there’s so many things to work on. There’s stuff about strategy, there’s marketing, there’s advertising, there’s also working with suppliers, there’s also building your website, writing ads and so much more and you are trying to do everything yourself.

So, I would encourage you to be ready to delegate work, if you want to start a business. You’ve got to get someone to do it for you; pay someone to do it for you!

So, for example, I have a marketing team. I actually get them to write my ads for me. I have someone helping me with doing my social media stuff. I have someone to actually mentor and coach me. I’m paying that person to help me!

I’m not doing everything myself whereas what I can do myself is I focus on really working on the strategy and working on my vision, working on where I want to take the business whereas inside the business I have my accountants working for me. I’m not doing my own accounts. So if you’re ready to do business, you have to have this mindset to work on your business and not in the business.

4.Don’t Take Advice From Friends Or Family:

If your family is in business and the business is growing great, then go for it! Ask them advice! But if your friends and family are not in business why would you actually take advice from them? So, this is a mistake. For example, I had a friend who had just come out of his job and started his business on the side.

I asked him “Hey! What are you doing in your business? Can you help me with my business!” So he started helping me with the marketing aspects and I was taking advice from him! That’s where I made a big mistake because after a couple of months he came and told me that he is going back to his job.

I was in the middle of nowhere and I realised that I made a mistake asking a friend to help me when he’s never done it himself. So be very careful who you lend your ear to especially your friends! Everybody will have an opinion about what you should do and what you should not do.

So, my encouragement to you is, if you are going to start a business and you’re going to take advice from friends and family who have never done it before then don’t start a business.

If you really want to start a business then you’ve got to be really strong and whatever opinions come, let them be! You focus on your business, get a mentor and grow your business from there! That’s what I would encourage you to do!

5.Learn How To Sell:

This is the most important aspect in business! Learn how to sell! Yes! Sales! Now you might say “I know how to sell!” No you don’t! You might have been an employee, you might think you know how to sell but you don’t! Now what do I mean by this? Let me share with you my personal experience!

I come from a business background myself! My parents have been in businesses all their life. They sell all the time! I’ve been with them and I thought I know how to sell because I’ve seen them selling but when I tried it myself I was really sort of pushing features and benefits and people were just not buying.

When I was in my job, I was told that since I’ve been doing lots of presentations, I’ve been doing a lot of sales, selling to my bosses, to my managers… I was great at it. But when it came to my business I could not because what sales actually means is connections, negotiations and leadership. Leadership is the top form of sales!

Have you been in a leadership position before? How are you managing your day-to-day sales is also your mindset. How do you actually control your mind not to be desperate? It’s all sales!

Whenever you are starting a business for the first time just remember that sales is the most important aspect. You see nothing happens until the sale is made. So even if you’re making videos and everything but you can not close a deal then money is not coming in!

CONCLUSION

So, if you want to start a business these are the five things you must have: Number one — Take full responsibility; Number two — If you have no money don’t start a business; Number three — Work ‘on’ your business not ‘in’ your business; Number four — Don’t take advice from friends and family that haven’t done it before and number five — Learn to sell !
